Storm Petrel Publications

Storm Petrel is a tiny press producing and selling one product in 2007. In November 2006, our team has just put our oars in the water. On 28 December 2006, Black Swan became available at Barnes & Noble’s on-line store. The national advertising campaign began at the end of January.

About us

Once upon a once, when I worked on a crazy boat in the North Pacific, I became a fan of a little bird. This little bird thrived inside of storms. These storms kick up fifteen, twenty and thirty-foot seas. The wind sheers the tops of the waves off, igniting the water into a vicious spray that cuts skin. Here is the world of chaos. Amongst the towers of green water in motion, where white water foams at the crests where wind meets water plays this little bird. He rests in the trough below a great wave. He alights off the crown into the wind, starting one way into the wind, then flipping mid-air to fly within the currents.

I called this bird the storm petrel. I haven't a clue if I am right. There on the deck it is blowing a full gale. There is no room for books or camera. I just figure that a little bird that plays like that would have to have “storm” in his name — and there is one little far-ocean bird with the word “storm” in his name. We, the terrestrial mammals, scramble to shelter: a cove or a lee where we can recover, sleep and eat. That environment kills us without extreme caution and terrific equipment. Tumult was its playground. I understood that I am a spectator.
